‘Cave’ Paintings
In Green Class’ topic of ‘Rock and Roll’, the children experienced what it was like to draw cave paintings to help them question why the Stone-Age people left this record of themselves. It made some hands ache but they all showed resilience and came up with different suggestions for why stone-age people drew them. Their hypotheses to this historical question included – Cave decoration? A plan for how to catch a sabre-tooth tiger? To show others what their lives were like? Maybe they just liked painting? No one knows for certain – and that’s one of the wonders of history where we use insights and artefacts to try and make sense of the past.
