Persuasive Community Work!
During Year 6’s English topic this half-term, we have been looking at the heroic acts of Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela and, more recently, Marcus Rashford. His efforts to change the lives of young people have inspired us to make change within our own community. We generated and planned persuasive letters to request funds to help the local homeless community. We researched the types of food that are needed currently and calculated the cost to feed one person for a week and, through making sensible shopping choices, reached the figure of £5.09.
We successfully obtained £100 to help our cause and Miss Chisnall managed to fill 2 trollies with long-lasting products, such as: cereal, tins, biscuits, long-life milk and bread. On Thursday morning, our donations were delivered to ‘The Olive Branch’ on Westbourne Road and the staff were incredibly thankful for our efforts. We managed to feed 18 homeless people for one week as well as offer toothpaste, deodorant and dog food. Well done, Year 6!
