Phonics Success!

The phonics screening check is a light-touch assessment to see if children have reached an appropriate standard in using phonics  (letters and sounds) to read words.Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are taught phonics as one way in which to help them become confident readers and children in Year 1 complete the check one to one with their teacher. This year the children have done really well with 88% (higher than Lancashire and National average) achieving the pass mark. Phonics is just one part of reading and the daily reading you do with children is even more important in making them confident and keen readers for life.
