Tolerance in Book Week

Book Week has begun and the children are excited about the reading and writing in their lessons, the wide range of books for sale at the Book Fair, the Story in a Jar they have created at home and the upcoming Reading Breakfast. In assembly, we listened to two great children’s books which combine good stories and our value of the term – tolerance. Both ‘Yeti and the Bird’ and ‘Something Else’ explore issues around friendship and getting on with others despite being different. We have looked at tolerance as understanding that we are all different, that this is a positive thing and knowing that we can get along no matter our differences. In particular we have looked at how one might feel joining something new – such as a school – and how those of us already part of a wider group can be welcoming to someone new to this environment.
