Tree Identification

As part of their classification unit of Science, Year 6 have been researching the trees our local roads are named after – such as Sycamore, Beech, Willow and Cedar – to identify species by their leaves. Using a mixture of tools, including ID dials, the internet, classification keys and Field Guides, the children have got to understand how different trees can be. They have found similarities and differences including whether or not trees are evergreen or deciduous, the leaf shapes and how the veins are laid out.
